Course Summary:  The two day, 16-hour Instructor Traditional Recertification Course focuses on safe weapons handling to achieve a shooter’s highest level of speed and accuracy for pistol and carbine shooting.

Pre-Training Brief: Prior to students going out to the range, the students are briefed on grounds and safety basics to prepare for the live-fire portion of the course.

Day 1: Each course will begin with a pistol/carbine standards assessment test of 9 timed drills.  The assessment includes 6 levels of pistol/carbine standards, which enables us to adjust the difficulty level, challenging the students for each particular course.  From the results of this test, the instructor will evaluate the level of proficiency of the students and proceed into instruction.  Pistol fundamentals will be taught taking place on our paper ranges utilizing our custom-made paper targets.  Pistol fundamentals talking points include:  sight alignment, sight picture, 5 types of trigger presses, trigger prep, grip, stance, breathing, follow through, reset, trigger finger placement, etc.  Each fundamental area will be discussed in detail with live fire demonstrations to prove our techniques.  While discussing pistol fundamentals, we will embed efficient pistol manipulation immediate/remedial drills and techniques to include touch points, high ready presentations, front sight efficiency, recoil management, controlled recoil management, and workspace importance.  Students are given ample time to learn each drill discussed while working in shooter and spotter pairs.

Drills include rapid-aimed firing techniques, draws, reloading manipulations/handling (tactical reloads and slide lock reloads), and additional recoil management training.  Current holster selection will be discussed as well as concealment options.  Additionally, other equipment and clothing considerations will be covered to give students the necessary knowledge to outfit their battle belts effectively.

Once all basic and advanced pistol fundamentals are complete, the class will move on to our pneumatic steel ranges to further ingrain/practice our proven techniques. During these steel range exercises, students will be instructed on multiple target engagement techniques at adverse angles from barricades, vehicles, barriers, and facades. Students will get instruction on shooting on the move and shooting from cover/concealment on these steel courses of fire.

Day 2:  Following a rifle marksmanship safety brief, students will undergo rifle fundamentals training starting on our paper ranges.  Specific course curriculum and standards will be adjusted, depending on how the students tested on the first day.  Instructor focus will be on one or more of our standard set of drills in accordance with the level of proficiency of the students taking the course. Each of our standard set of drills has 9 timed individual drills incorporating: rifle low ready, rifle high ready, pistol draw, rifle to pistol transition drill, rifle bolt lock reload, pistol slide lock reload, check drill, pistol & rifle el-prez.  Manipulation/handling, malfunctions (I/II/III), reloading procedures, and recoil management techniques are thoroughly covered. The students will be taught methods to identify why and when the drills must be done, including simplified explanations of techniques that will ensure their success/completion of each drill.  Clothing attire and sling considerations will also be covered to give students the necessary knowledge to outfit their ‘kit’ effectively when training with a rifle.  Following Instructor evaluation of safe shooter demonstration, instruction progresses to steel ranges to test the students’ understanding/skill level of the fundamentals covered and introduces them to working with one to four-man teams, bounding, movement in structures, in and around cover and utilizing communication and team SOPs. Each range will utilize one or both pistol/rifle weapon systems.  Additionally, students will engage targets from many different tactical positions including tactical barricades, various vehicles, boulders, tree, logs, etc., to become proficient in tactical firing positions, shooting on the move, multiple target scenarios at adverse angles, multi-target techniques, communicating and practicing individual units’ SOPs and long-range marksmanship (50-900 meter).
